Which one of his movies did Arnold Schwarzenegger name his campaign bus after when running for governor?

When my parents first told me that Ronald Reagan had been an actor back in the day, I didn’t believe them. When Sonny Bono became a congressman, it might have been even more surprising. But I’m not sure there’s ever been a more surprising famous-person-turned politician than when Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for and won the governorship of California.

For one thing, he’s from Austria. Foreign-born governors, as you might imagine, are pretty rare. In fact, Arnold was the first one in California since Irishman John G. Downey in 1862. But I think Schwarzenegger probably had a bit more star power than Downey, or pretty much almost anyone else who’s ever run for office of any kind ever.

And he put that star power to good use, even naming his campaign bus after one of his films. Which movie was it?

The answer is: The Running Man. Arnold Schwarzenegger aptly named his campaign bus “The Running Man,” as a clever play on words after his 1987 movie, while he was running to be governor of California during the 2003 recall race. Arnold won and became California’s 38th governor where he served from 2003 to 2011. Arnold has claimed that his decision to give back and serve the state of California cost him tens of millions of dollars during the prime of his acting career, but he still considers it to be one of the greatest roles he’s ever had the privilege to play.
