Where are the McAllisters going on vacation in "Home Alone"?

"Home Alone" kicks off with the world's most chaotic family vacation prep. Fifteen McAllisters scrambling around a mansion, scarfing down pizza, and packing for an international Christmas adventure. The next morning's oversleeping disaster leads to the mother of all travel mishaps, but what was their destination?

The answer is: Paris
In "Home Alone," the McAllisters booked a Christmas getaway to Paris, France. Uncle Rob had invited all 15 family members to spend the holidays at his swanky Boulevard Saint-Germain apartment. This explains why pizza boy Little Nero's got the order of his life the night before takeoff.
The Paris trip gave us some of the movie's best moments of chaos. The family sprints through O'Hare International Airport like they're training for the Olympics. Catherine O'Hara's Kate McAllister screams "KEVIN!" in first class when she realizes they've left her eight-year-old back in Chicago. Poor Kevin, meanwhile, is living it up at home thinking he made his family disappear.
Producer John Hughes picked Paris because it needed to be somewhere far enough that Kate couldn't just grab a quick flight home. Her journey back becomes an epic quest, getting stranded in Scranton with nothing but standby tickets and determination. She ends up hitching a ride with John Candy's polka band in a truck full of instruments. The rest of the family makes it to Paris, but we barely see their fancy French vacation. Because let's be honest, watching Kevin order pizza, jump on beds, and battle burglars was way more fun than watching the McAllisters eat croissants.
