What was the last song by The Monkees to top the Billboard Hot 100?

The Monkees owned 1967. They held the year's best-selling single, the best-selling album, and an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. One more chart-topper slipped in before the whole thing came apart. What was the last song from The Monkees to top the Billboard Hot 100?

Correct Answer: Daydream Believer
(Source)After four number-one LPs, The Monkees were tired of being mocked as the "Pre-Fab Four." The band actually played on "Daydream Believer" and it served as a subtle comeback to critics. The song topped the Hot 100 in December 1967, but it was their final trip to the top. "Valleri" stalled at number three, "D.W. Washburn" only reached number 19, and the TV show wrapped in March 1968. For a band that spent a year being inescapable, the exit music played awfully quick.
