Whenever you see a sequel for a movie you liked is in the works, it's a fine balance between being excited to see more of what you enjoyed and praying they don't just phone it in — as sequels so often do.

But every now and then, there's a sequel that not only meets the quality and reception of its predecessor(s) but exceeds them. Case in point: the first sequel to win an Oscar when the original didn't even get a single nomination.

The answer is: T2. 1992's Terminator 2: Judgment Day won an impressive four Academy Awards out of six nominations, including Best Makeup, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects — despite the first film, 1984's The Terminator, receiving no nominations. It's also the only Terminator movie to have won any Oscars.Source
