There are few things better than scrolling through TV channels late on a summer's night, only to find an obscure, nearly forgotten, or straight-up old sci-fi movie airing in the wee hours of the night.
Movies like 1960's The Time Machine, Beneath the Planet of the Apes from 1970, or 1984's Ice Pirates are best viewed when you have literally nothing else to do and nowhere else to be.
Sci-fi at the cinema has seen booms and busts; it's been taken seriously and it's been considered a children's genre; but most of all science fiction has given us the opportunity to imagine and explore, all while munching on a gallon of popcorn.

French magician turned filmmaker, Georges Méliès, released what is considered to be the first science-fiction film way back in 1902.In just under 20 minutes, A Trip to the Moon follows a group of astronomers as they visit the moon, meet some moon natives who live underground, and capture one and bring it back to Earth. The special effects were groundbreaking, and honestly still pretty cool today.Source
