Since the introduction of the Ken doll in 1961, one could easily argue that Ken has never had nearly as much attention as he’s getting right now.
You can thank Greta Gerwig and Ryan Gosling for that, but you can also thank a long and meaningful history provided by Barbie creator Ruth Handler and Mattel. Just consider the number of occupations Ken has held, including: barista, rapper, astronaut, Starfleet command officer, and Country Western singer, to name a very few.
But being Kenough goes well beyond just the dolls. Both Barbie and Ken were given origin stories that can be found in novelizations and other materials that most of us didn’t even know ever existed.

The answer is: Kenneth Sean Carson Jr. The lore of the Barbie-verse is vaster than most people would ever think. Well before the movie there were novels and promotional materials that gave the iconic dolls robust backstories. For example, both Ken and Barbie are from Willows, Wisconsin. And Ken’s full name is Kenneth Sean "Ken" Carson Jr. The Kenneth comes from Kenneth Handler, son of Barbie inventor Ruth Handler. “Carson” comes from Mattel’s ad agency, Carson/Roberts. The “Sean”? I guess they just liked that name for some reason.Source
