What game was featured on the cover of the first Nintendo Power?

If you were a kid in the ‘80s and ‘90s and didn’t have Nintendo Power, you were basically a laughingstock. This precious tomb held all the secrets, tips, and inside looks at all the greatest Nintendo games. Rather than wasting your parent’s money calling the Nintendo hotline, it was far more economical to get a subscription to the magazine. At least, that’s how I sold it as a kid.
Today, the stupid internet has killed off even the great Nintendo Power, leaving only its memory to cling to for comfort. Never again will I experience the excitement of opening my mailbox and having a fresh magazine to show me all the amazing video games my parents wouldn’t buy me.
The first issue of Nintendo Power has become an iconic piece of video game history, but how many of us out there remember what game was given the honor of gracing the cover?

Correct Answer: Super Mario Bros. 2
The answer is: Super Mario Bros. 2. If there’s one thing I miss most about the ‘80s and ‘90s, it’s the video game magazines. Were they all glorified ads? Yes, but they were for video games! Nintendo Power was the first official magazine made directly by a console company, so you know it had to be kicked off with Mario on the cover. Or…some Play-Doh-looking approximation of Mario for Super Mario Bros. 2. This baby included a poster and full “20-Page Spectacular” about the game. What more could you want as a kid?Source
