If one wanted to get a glimpse of Paul Newman in his heyday, one could certainly do a lot worse than "Cool Hand Luke." Released in 1967, Newman’s portrayal of Lucas "Luke" Jackson was universally praised, earning him an Oscar nomination and widely still regarded as one of the great performances in film. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress.
I’m not totally sure what “selected for preservation” means exactly, but if I had to guess the reason it was picked was mostly thanks to one line. It’s a line that has been repeated so many times, many people think it’s from another movie they’ve seen. Wrong people! If you hear it anywhere else, they’re referencing this movie.
Delivered in a mini-speech by the hardened Captain to the rebellious Luke, can you name this quote?

The answer is: What we've got here is failure to communicate. While it’s often misquoted as “have,” which would be more correct grammatically, the line actually uses “got.” And no “a”. Just failure. Spoiler alert: The communications problems between Luke and the Captain do NOT get better.Source
