How much was Jon Heder paid for the lead role in Napoleon Dynamite?

I saw Napoleon Dynamite in the theater back in 2004 before anyone really knew what it was. Of course, even after seeing it and following all its success, I'm not sure anyone still really knows what it is.
All I know is that I laughed, and I was pretty sure the lead actor was just that guy. Jon Heder's depiction of the titular character is probably the main reason it did so well — and he deserves any and all praise for his performance.
But how well compensated was he for that role?

Correct Answer: $1,000
The answer is: $1,000. Jon Heder was paid just $1,000 to play the lead role in Napoleon Dynamite. The indie film was made on a budget of just $400,000 but went on to make a staggering $40 million in the United States. For Napoleon’s memorable dance sequence, director Jared Hess told Heder to improvise to three different songs, then cut together his favorite moves. I hope he got a little more $$ by the end of it all.Source
