Lionsgate announces Steelbook collectible releases for Kickboxer and Little Monsters
More and more I've been thinking about spending my money on physical media instead of throwing it into the void of streaming where I might not even get to keep my purchase for myself.
And Lionsgate is making that choice seem even more relevant with a couple of upcoming collectible releases of nostalgic movies. Both of these classic movies will be released via Steelbook, meaning DVDs that come inside steel cases instead of boring plastic ones.
To refresh your memory, Kickboxer is a story of martial arts vengeance, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme at the height of his prowess.
Released in 1989 it tells the tale of brothers Kurt (Van Damme) and Eric (actual kickboxer, Dennis Alexio). When Eric gets paralyzed during a match, Kurt takes it upon himself to exact revenge via the art of Muay Thai. And as you might expect, some very high kicks are indeed in order.
And if you're looking for a refresher on Little Monsters, it also came out in 1989 and made me slightly uncomfortable as a child. Starring Howie Mandel as a monster (turns out they DO live under the bed and in closets) and Fred Savage, it teaches children the important lesson that if they're bad they'll turn into a mischievous monster forever.
The Steelbook for Little Monsters also features vintage interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at Mandell getting into makeup, among several other features.
Both collectible releases will include Blu-Rays of the movies and hit the streets on March 5, 2024, according to a press release. They will be exclusively available at Walmart.
