Here are 5 things that happened on June 30 that matter to those of us who know that acid washed is the best kind of washed.
I.
Birthdays of honor: Mike Tyson (1966), Vincent D’Onofrio (1959), David Alan Grier (1956), Terry Funk (1944), Phil Anselmo (1968), Cody Rhodes (1985), Yngwie Malmsteen (1963).
II.
In 1977 Marvel published a comic book featuring the rock band Kiss, purportedly including a vial of the band’s blood mixed in with the ink.
III.
Sometimes the soundtrack is bigger and better than the movie. This was arguably the case with the release of 1992’s Singles, whose soundtrack came out on June 30.
Featuring Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and many more, it helped to cement the age of grunge.
IV.
In 1971 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory hit theaters, eventually leading me to watch it about 75 times in elementary school when the teachers were sick of our crap.
We also had a problem in Houston when Apollo 13 hit theaters in 1995, and Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman lawyered like MFers when The Firm came out in 1993.

Spinal Tap‘s One Night Only World Tour started (and ended) at London’s Wembley Arena in 2009.
